Namco Bandai Games began streaming a three-minute promotional video for Namco Bandai Online's new Mobile Suit Gundam Online game for Microsoft Windows systems. The video includes footage of gameplay on the New Yark map of the title's "Alpha 3" test.

The game has each player assuming the role of a mobile suit pilot in the world of the first Mobile Suit Gundam television anime series. The player can choose between the Earth Federation or Zeon forces and fight alongside friends in various battlefields. Players can eventually command other pilots and encounter famous pilots from the original anime. Each side of a battle can have up to 52 players, for a grand total of 104 players.
The game will feature not only customizable units and characters from the first anime, but also those from original video anime spinoffs and other projects. The game will also have different game modes and rule settings for players to try out.

  2. Wait I thought Bandai just came out with a Battle Operation Online game, why are they making another one?

  3. If you bothered to watch the gameplay videos of both you'd realize they are nothing alike. They have different graphical styles. Battle Operation is 6v6 with a more 'clunky' realism feel. This is also on another platform, it's not on consoles.

  4. Why are these games always in an OYW setting? How about the Gryps War or later? I thought MSG:Z was popular in Japan.

    1. Probably because OYW has surprisingly the most MS and variations they can slam into a game, whereas most of the later variations are... well, there are still a ton, but it's probably because later series have really powerful MS, whereas in the OYW, most variations are specialized enough it's easier to make a balanced game.

If they chose the gryps conflict it would be hard to balance side vs side because of the fact titans would have a clear numbers advantage when it came to mobile suits and the amount they had. AEUG would have... probably not many. Even when including side things like Advance of Zeta, you are giving the Titans an even larger advantage. Neo Zeon led by Haman would have even less at the time of the Gryps conflict, the Gaza-C and Qubeley are about what they had in the show. If they included Advance of Zeta they would get the Stutzer units, but beyond that, they'd have to use older MS which, if they want to keep in line with the show, would be annihilated rather easily by the Titan's MS.

Most of these games like playing out as Side vs Side though so... yeah. Balancing it is key.

    2. Quick little thing to add, but also, imagine 100+ player GROUND combat with suits from Zeta's era. It would... be a bit too ridiculous.

  5. Only thing I can really say is that they need to fix the walking animation or change the speed of movement. It looks really bad right now.
