    1. I applaud Sunrise for being smart about this. They have no idea how a well a remake will sell so they're testing the waters with a prequel.

I'm guessing if it does well, we'll get the whole adaptation.

    1. Please stop with this kind of comment, I know, Gundam Seed is not really O.K(I did not say it is trash) and I hate Seed Fans too, but your kind of attitude make UC/Seed or whole Gundam fans hate you

I know how Seed fans started attack at UC fans. (it's really annoying) but same goes to you (I don't think you are UC/Seed or Gundam fans, I think you are just a ******* troll)

    2. pfff.... move on troll!!!

    3. i actually enjoy both seed and UC. there are very few series that i havent seen such as Gundam X, ZZ and Z Gundam, Turn A gundam and a few others, but fans are aloud to have interest in different series. for me though i enjoy all of Gundam (or those i have seen which is like 75%) there is no need to hate on other fans for having different taste. :)

  7. Wonder will they mention the Laplace stuff, the treaty or whatever that became the main focus of Unicorn.
68 years after still earlier then 96 years after.

Feels like its a big event in UC0001, big enough to be history textbooks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nah I dont think so since the one year war and the wars from Z and ZZ were far more intense and not to mention those events revolves before Char's Counterattack so there's a slim chance of them being mentioned, but Laplace? not so much....

  8. it's written up there idiots. Will be a 4 theatrical movie set.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It says the 4 episodes will debut in theaters. It doesn't say they are full length theatrical features. They are also showing the final episode of Unicorn in the theaters but that doesn't make it a full length movie.

      Delete
    2. The Zeta movies also aired in theaters (which were 90 minutes each) and the 00 movie, which--IIRC--also aired in (a few) theaters in North America.

I'm one of those people who thought that the series really demanded a full, 50-episode TV treatment. There's a lot to cover. Some figures I ran up for the ANN thread:

4x50 minute movies = approximately 10 TV episodes.
4x90 minute movies = approximately 18 TV episodes.
4x120 minute movies = approximately 24 TV episodes.

      I therefore think:

      1. The Origin adaptation movies will need an average runtime of 120 minutes, at least, to fully realize the totality of the the manga. (The original MSG compilation movies--also known as the only Gundam compilation movies that actually worked--were roughly 2 hours each, by the way).

      2. An average runtime of 90 minutes might also work, depending on whether or not they're okay cutting superfluous material (like the visit to Amuro's hometown, for example).

      3. They have a history of vastly underestimating the amount of time necessary for anime adaptation--Unicorn was originally going to be 6x50 minute episodes (300 minutes total); but, instead, was increased to 7x60 minute episodes (420 minutes total)--that means it took them more than 30% more time to tell adapt a story than they initially estimated.

I think the most likely runtime is 90 minutes, as animated movies in Japan seldom seem to be much longer than that, and also because that was the length of the Zeta Gundam movies, which is really the only analog we have to go by.

As for them being "theatrical features"--they are. They absolutely are. Mobile Suit Gundam--that is, the original story of Char and Amuro--is mainstream popculture in Japan. It's on an entirely different level than the sequel and AU stuff--it has legitimate mass appeal.

I think we're absolutely looking at 90 minute average runtimes at minimum--up to 120 if we're super lucky.

  9. From some other post I have seen this is a 4 part OVA focusing on Char and Sayla. Note how this is Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN I. I can see a TV series for the main retelling of the OYW but I thing they are doing OVA on the side story's first.

    ReplyDelete
  10. OH YES! I knew that after Unicorn, Bandai was going it animate Origins into an OVA series like Unicorn! I bet we're going to see RX-78-2 Origins Ver. MG too.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I see this mistake a lot, and it bugs me. Probably because "Origins" is such a massively overused subtitle for a lot of prequel media in the US.

It's Gundam: The Origin. Not Gunam Origins or any of that garbage.Get it right.

      Delete
    2. I sincerely hope you meant Sunrise, not Bandai. Never go full retard.

      Delete
  11. I see Degwin and Gihren there.

  12. Only thing i'm not happy with is the CG Guntank. Otherwise, i'm excited ! I can't wait to enjoy origin off the manga pages :D

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i dont think it is already called a guntank since this timeline is on casval's childhood. so most likely all ms here are earlier versions.

      Delete
    2. They call it a Guntank in The Origin manga several times.

      Delete
  13. OH MY FUCKING GOD I am so pissed of this is an OVA. I was looking forward to this series for so long and now this. GG Bandai.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I would love it to cover the OYW as well , even if the are movies are 2 hours long 4 does not seem enthough, 5 sure but 4 for everything inc this part no

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wonder who's the idiot driving the guntank?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The drawings of young Casval remind me of Johann from Monster (go seek that out, great psychological horror)

    ReplyDelete
  17. The artwork does not look as good as Gundam Unicorn.Does anyone know whether the animation style will be same as Gundam unicorn or not?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Are you frakking joking? This is true to the original look of Origin, not to mention it shares the same character designer.

      Delete
    2. It won't, anon.

This is by Yas, who drew all the original character art for the first Gundam series. We're seeing an updated version of that old-school character design style. Get used to it.

I like Unicorn's art, because it's reminiscent of the various Gundam OVAs from the late eighties through the nineties...but I also really like Yas' oldschool style.

      Delete
  18. OK. I think I am officially confused. I was initially under the impression this would be essentially reanimating the entire OYW story line as portrayed in the Gundam The Origin manga. Based off of that clip this sounds more like a prequel series about the events that led up to the OYW that will likely wrap up with the Zeon getting ready to break into side 6 to see what MS the Federation have built. I am interested in what happened with Zeon Zum Daikun but I was kind of hoping to have First Gundam with modern animation,

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They're gonna do the flashback chapters of The Origin.

      Delete
    2. No the Origin manga has stories recollecting events that took place before the OYW. The first episode is probably a prequel and setting up to world

      Delete
  19. Char will be three times as naughty...

    ReplyDelete
  20. So if Gundam Origins makes it as an OVA series, then maybe we can also get Gundam Wing Glory of the Losers as an OVA series and continue with a new film for Endless Waltz, and then conclude with Frozen Teardrop as an OVA?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ...Neither FZ or GoL are halfway done.

      Delete
    2. Or how about we just leave Wing alone? It was an alright series, but I do NOT long to see more. Keep in mind that while Wing was somewhat popular in Japan (and wildly popular Stateside)*not that Bandai cares about the US anymore*, it gets trumped in the popularity by series like Zeta; a key UC product. I wouldn't get your hopes up about seeing any more AC/MC series getting animated. The Origins I is..well...its a testing of the water; The Origins OYW is surely to follow if its met with success; which is will be. Japan loves Char.

      Delete
    3. How about we leave the One Year War alone? Sure it's the original but it's way, way overrated. Japan loves Kira Yamato more than Char. Get your facts straight, tard.

      Delete
    4. Overrated or not, it IS still the original. They will prioritize it over the spin-offs, popular or not. That's how important it is to them. That's why they keep making numerous RX 78-2 releases, and making a big deal out of anything related to Char (Char's Custom, Char's Z'gok, Char's this or that) even if they are just recolors.

      Delete
  21. This will be interesting. Really got excited because I thought this was announcing animation of the series, not a side story.

Still, it'll be awesome for Char to get some more love

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is that Jimba Ral?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep. Char's surrogate father after Zeon Daikun's death.

      Delete
  23. Mark my word, Bandai is testing the water for future BIG announcement of ORIGINS OYW in 2019 (40th Gundam Anniversary). Till then........

    ReplyDelete
  24. In the funeral scene directly to the right of Sayla, i believe the two gentlemen standing there are Jimba Ral and his son Romba Ral. Jimba being the man in the suit and Romba in the military uniform.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dat Guntank prototype tho.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wonder how long before the Gundam rises...

    ReplyDelete
  27. the only time you can be char without being shuichi ikeda...

    ReplyDelete
  28. The CG Guntank and Char's Zaku are kinda jarring. Those outline are too heavy when compared to the characters and the colour's are a bit too shiny. Don't tell me they are going all CG for the mecha battles. Please let there be a least some awesome hand drawn mecha battle.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So the mechs will be cell-shaded CGI? Not sure what to think. Very apparent that much heavier CGI will be used than was with Unicorn.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think I saw a pussy cat

    ReplyDelete
  31. why CG ? CGI is bad ( I have no idea what is CGI but I want to be like expert guys )

    ReplyDelete
  32. now that is red zaku.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know. This is the first time in a long time the char zaku is not too pink. Lately it has been appearing lighter and lighter in color. Maybe we will get an updated hg kit for the release.

      Delete
    2. And now it can live up to "Red Comet" Title

      Delete
  33. Seriously! The video title is written in Japanese but the video is not available to view here in Japan! That is so dumb....

    ReplyDelete
  34. CG...crap. I'd rather it just didn't have mecha...

The Gundam Origin OVA is to be 4 episodes? Or "Gundam Origin: I" is 4 episodes?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I do hope that they will announce a 1/100 MG Zaku II Char Custom ver 3.0 at the release of this movie.
